Field Hockey Midseason Update

By Alicia Pollard, staff reporter

Last season, they won their first game in Sturgis history and a tie.
This year, they won their first game of the season against Southbridge with a score of 6-3 on Friday, September 30.
Abbie Titcomb scored 3 goals, Lillian Randall had 2 goals with an assist, and Kaitlin Doherty scored 1 with an assist.
“Everybody worked together, it was nice to see everybody get in the game,” said Coach Nicole Eldredge.

Coach Eldredge is the first coach in several years to stay longer than one season.
Though the 6 goals scored against Southbridge are the only goals scored yet this season, they show growth from last season, in which the team scored 5 goals total.
The goalie, Helen Titcomb, is averaging 15 saves a game.
“I’m very excited to see what happens toward the end of the season...we’re improving as a team,” Eldredge said about the outcome of the season.

After nearly a decade of seasons without a single win and revolving slate of coaches , the girls' field hockey at Sturgis is making significant progress this season.
