Admin. Nukes Additional Microwaves Possibility

In light of Sturgis’ open lunch policy, the school has provided four microwaves for students who bring lunch from home. However, the number of microwaves and their working conditions leave many students stuck waiting in a long line or eating lunch cold.

“The ratio of students to microwaves...it’s not even possible,” said Anna Campbell, a junior at East.

The ratio of four microwaves to 400 students (not counting those who buy) already felt insufficient, but with two of the microwaves not working in September for a bit, the wait grew that much longer.

Keeping Religion Out of Your Sneezes

Avoid saying "God Bless You" or face a point deduction.

Imagine you are that “ideal” student - you ask intelligent questions in class and are nothing but polite to all your teachers and classmates. One day, while in your health class, you say, “God bless you” as common courtesy after a fellow classmate sneezed. What would you do if your teacher then said, “I’m taking 25 points off your grade because you simply said, ‘God bless you’”?

A California health teacher made national news at the end of September for banning the use of “God bless you” in his classroom. But he didn’t stop there. He banned the entire practice of saying anything at all, including “Bless you.” Additionally  he went as far as penalizing students’ grades for violating the rule.

West Side Story: Or, Dear Sturgis West, You're Welcome!

Ever since the announcement that Sturgis Charter Public School was going to be a plural title, we have all waited anxiously to see what spawn could come out of our neighboring school now known as Sturgis West. It’s fitting - and natural - that our converted furniture store should produce another converted-furniture-store school. Busy Hyannis Main Street separates the original East from West. It is like Berlin during the Cold War minus the barbed wire, concrete walls, nasty checkpoints, and rhetoric about the East being greater than the West.

StormWatch reporters at East decided to go and investigate the new school, and so during advisory two weeks ago they ventured across to speak to those interested in creating a West newspaper. There were almost two dozen students. The students appeared bright and inquiring, even enthusiastic. They reminded us of... ourselves. So in personality as well as origin, East and West won’t be so far apart. Unlike the two Berlins in the 1960s.
